Getting started
Your profile
Your Profile is the one place for everything about you on Rentor: what you look like to other people, the roles you hold, what you have saved and liked, where you have lived, stayed and ordered, and the settings that keep your account safe. Open it from the account menu at the top of any page (Profile), from Profile in the dashboard sidebar, or on the phone from the More tab (tap your name).
It has nine sections. On a computer they are listed down the left; on a phone they scroll across the top.
Overview
Your photo, full name, username, a short bio (up to 280 characters) and your town. The bio and town are the two lines of your own words on your public page, so keep them to who you are: links, email addresses, phone numbers and social-media handles are refused. People reach you through Rentor, by booking, applying or ordering, and that is what keeps both sides protected.
Under the fields is How others see you: your public page rendered exactly as somebody else gets it. Pick the role page (tenant, landlord, host and so on) and switch between Anyone and Someone you deal with. Everything you change in the Privacy section shows up here at once. Beside it is the link to your public page.
What a public profile shows
A profile is your reputation and how long you have been here, and nothing else. The ratings and reviews you have earned in each role are shown as they are, with the star average and the count from each source kept apart. What each visitor sees depends on your dealings with them, not on who they are:
- Anyone sees your first name and an initial (or your business name for a landlord, agency, host or provider page), your verification badges, your star averages, and, if you show them, your bio, your town and the year you joined. No photo unless you switch it on.
- Someone with an enquiry, application or booking in progress with you also sees your photo, category scores and short snippets of reviews.
- Someone you have transacted with (a tenancy, a completed stay, a completed order) sees your full name and the full reviews, and can rate you.
Never on a profile, for anyone: your email, phone number, National ID, address, what you own or rent, how many properties or homes you have, or any money figure.
Privacy
Seven switches decide what your public page shows. The defaults are what most people expect: everything on except your photo and search-engine indexing.
- Show my photo to everyone. Off means only people you have dealings with see it.
- Show my full name to people I deal with. Off means everyone but you sees your first name and an initial, even after a tenancy or a booking. They may still see your name inside their own dashboard, because a lease or a booking carries it.
- Show the year I joined Rentor.
- Show my short bio.
- Show my town.
- Let search engines index my profile. Only for a landlord, agency, host or provider page, and only once public profiles are switched on for everyone. A private person's page is never indexed.
- Hide a role page. Tick a role and its page disappears for the public and for people with only an enquiry. Somebody you have actually rented from, hosted, hired or been hired by still sees it, because that is the relationship their review describes, and so do you.
Ratings, star averages and review text stay public at the tiers above and cannot be switched off. That is the point of a profile: the next person can trust what the last one said.
Roles
The roles you hold, cards for adding one, and the details each role keeps: a landlord's business and paybill details, a tenant's employment and emergency contact, an agency's bank account, a host's display name and short host bio, and a provider's headline, advert bio and logo. Some of these save only while you are wearing that hat; the card tells you and offers to switch.
Saved and Likes
Everything you have hearted, grouped as Houses, Stays, Providers, Posts and items and Searches. You can now save a service provider from their page or from an item they sell. Go-to providers lists the providers you saved and any you have completed two or more orders with, each with a Book again button. Likes is the list of the posts and listings you liked on Discover.
History
Only you see this. Your past and current homes (tenancies that have ended stay here, with the dates), your trips, your orders, your viewings, and a line for the ratings you have given and received with a link to give the ones that are waiting.
Activity
The notifications of the last 90 days, and the account events that matter: sign-ins, password and two-factor changes, phone and email changes, profile updates, documents you viewed or signed, data exports. Nothing else from the audit log is shown, and never an IP address.
Security and Preferences
Your phone number (changing it asks for proof, see Password, 2FA & security), National ID and KRA PIN, password, two-factor authentication and signed-in devices; then where you land after sign-in, notification and newsletter choices, guided tours, appearance, and sign out. Privacy & data, where you download a copy of your data or delete your account, is one link away: see Your privacy & data rights.
The link /dashboard/settings still works and opens the same page.
