How everything works.

Every feature explained properly — for tenants, landlords, agencies, hosts and service providers.

For landlords

Letting hosts operate your units

A host leases a unit from you and re-rents it — as short stays or a long-term sublet. On Rentor you stay in control: your approval is the authorisation, and their lease rent to you can flow through the platform with proper receipts.

The Hosts page

Open Hosts under Operations. You'll see your units, any requests from hosts, invites you've sent, and — once an arrangement is running — the lease income hosts pay you.

Only a verified property can be offered to hosts. If a unit shows "Verify this property before offering it to hosts", finish Getting verified first.

Opening a unit to hosts

  1. On a unit's card, click Open to hosts. It gets an "Open to hosts" chip, and hosts browsing Rentor can find it and apply.
  2. Optionally set an asking rent — the monthly amount you want from a host — and click Save asking rent.
  3. Changed your mind? Click Close to hosts at any time.

When a host applies, their request appears at the top under Requests from hosts: who they are, the unit they want, what they offer per month, whether that rent would flow through Rentor or off-platform, and any message. Click Approve to create the arrangement, or Decline.

Inviting a host directly

Already know the person?

  1. Click Invite a host on the unit.
  2. Enter the host's email (they must already be a host on Rentor).
  3. Optionally propose the rent from the host (KES/mo), tick "Collect this rent through Rentor" if you want it billed on-platform, and add a message.
  4. Click Send invite.

Your invite sits under Invites you've sent with its status; you can Withdraw it while it's pending. The moment the host accepts, the arrangement starts — no further review needed, because your invitation is the authorisation.

While a host operates the unit

The unit's card shows a Hosted chip and "Operated by {host's name}". The host runs the guest side themselves — their stay bookings, guest payments and subtenants are their business, and their earnings from guests are not visible to you. What you see is your side of the deal:

  • Lease income from hosts lists each monthly bill the host owes you, marked Due or Paid, with a numbered receipt when it's settled. As the page puts it: "This is your income — separate from anything they earn from their own guests or subtenants."
  • On a paid bill you can click Issue eTIMS to push that rent to KRA under your own PIN — entirely optional, per bill, and nothing files automatically. See Tax & KRA compliance.

If you agreed on off-platform rent instead, Rentor simply records the arrangement and the money moves however you both arranged.

Ending the arrangement

On the hosted unit, click End arrangement. Rentor asks you to confirm — "Take this unit back? Any unpaid lease bills are cancelled." — then the unit returns to you. Settled bills and their receipts stay on the record.

Curious about the host's side of all this? Their guides start at Becoming a host.

On the phone app: More → People & Messages → Hosts has the same page — requests under Waiting on you with Accept and Decline, and on each unit Open to hosts, Edit rent, Invite a host and End arrangement.
