Getting started
Welcome to Rentor
Karibu! Rentor is one platform for the whole rental journey in Kenya — find a verified home, pay rent with an M-Pesa prompt, book a furnished stay for a night, manage a property portfolio, hire trusted help, and keep your records ready for KRA.
What you can do on Rentor
- Find a home. Browse verified rentals across Kenya — from bedsitters to maisonettes — filter by county, budget and amenities, and book viewings online. See Searching the marketplace.
- Pay rent with M-Pesa. Tap pay, approve the prompt on your phone, and get a downloadable receipt in seconds. Arrears and overpayments are tracked for you.
- Book short stays. Rentor Stays lists furnished homes by the night. Hosts keep 100% of what you pay — you deal directly with the host. See Searching short stays.
- Manage property. Landlords and agencies see occupancy, rent collected versus expected, arrears and maintenance in one dashboard.
- Hire trusted help. Book vetted service providers — plumbers, electricians, cleaners, movers and other fundis — or order from their catalogue of products. See Finding a service provider.
- Watch before you visit. Discover is a feed of short videos of homes, stays and providers' work. See The Discover video feed.
- Stay compliant. Export income summaries, and on eligible plans file rental income with KRA (eTIMS/eRITS) using the records already on the platform.
Who Rentor is for
- Member — every new account starts here: browse listings and stays, book viewings, and take on any role below whenever you're ready.
- Tenant — find a home, pay rent, download receipts, and report maintenance from your own dashboard.
- Landlord — list properties, invite tenants, collect rent to your own account, and track your whole portfolio.
- Agency — manage properties on behalf of client landlords, with permissions each landlord controls.
- Service provider — receive maintenance jobs and bookings, and build a public reputation from rated work.
- Caretaker — record monthly meter readings and report maintenance for the buildings you look after. Caretakers never handle money.
- Host — rent out furnished units by the night on Rentor Stays, or run longer sublets.
One account can hold more than one role — a landlord can also be a host, for example — and you switch between them freely.
What it costs
Joining and browsing are completely free, and tenant accounts are free. Landlords can start on a free plan and upgrade as their portfolio grows — see the Pricing page for current plans, limits and add-ons.
Most importantly: Rentor never takes a cut of your rent. Rent and deposits settle directly to the property owner's own M-Pesa or bank account — Rentor never holds your money. The platform charges a subscription, not a percentage.
Your privacy comes first
Your phone number and email are never exposed to the other side — viewing requests, messages and notices all go through the platform. Sensitive details like your National ID and KRA PIN are encrypted and never shown to other users, in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act (2019).
Where you can use Rentor
Rentor works in any browser on your computer or phone, and there's an app for Android on Google Play and for iPhone on the App Store. The home page opens on four doors — Find a home, Search for a stay, Find a service provider and Manage your property — with a search box underneath, so you are one tap from what you came for.
On the phone app: you can browse homes, stays, services and Discover before you even sign in. Once you do, the tabs along the bottom match your role, and More holds everything else — bookings, trips, and taking on a new role. See Rentor on your phone.
