How everything works.

Every feature explained properly — for tenants, landlords, agencies, hosts and service providers.

Money, account & privacy

Promo codes, offers & referrals

Rentor's paid products — subscriptions, listing boosts, extra-unit blocks, SMS credits and the like — regularly carry discounts. (Renting itself stays free for tenants: Rentor never takes a cut of your rent.) Here's how offers, promo codes, referral rewards and credits work, and the one rule that governs them all.

The one-discount rule

Every payment gets at most one discount — automatically the best one available to you. When you pay, Rentor weighs any promo code you've typed, any running promotion that applies to you, a referral welcome reward and any credit waiting on your account, and applies whichever saves you most. Discounts never stack, and the pay sheet always shows your saving before you confirm.

Automatic promotions

Some offers apply by themselves — you'll see the discounted price on the pricing page and in the pay sheet, often with the regular price crossed out. Nothing to enter, nothing to do.

Promo codes

Got a code? Type it in the Promo code field on the pay sheet before you confirm. The sheet checks it instantly and shows the new total. If a code is refused, Rentor tells you exactly why in plain words — expired, not for your account type, already used, or fully claimed.

Promo codes are entered on the website's pay sheet. The phone apps have no code field: on iPhone a plan is sold through the App Store at the App Store's price, and the Android app doesn't sell plans at all.

Discounts apply to payments you start yourself. An auto-renew prompt is always for the plan's current price, so if you're holding a code, renew by hand to use it.

An offer can be limited — to certain account types or plans, to first-time subscribers, to a claim limit, or to a date window. Once you've redeemed an offer, what you claimed is honoured in full; the terms you accepted can't be changed under you.

Invite & earn (referrals)

Everyone on Rentor has a personal referral code and share link — find your Invite & earn page under your account (and in the app, with a share button). Referring pays cash, and the card on that page always shows the current terms: the exact percentage, the hold, the withdrawal minimum, and the programme's end date if one is set.

How it works:

  • Your friend enters your code when they register (or just signs up through your link). They get the welcome reward shown on your card — a discount on their first payment, subject to the one-discount rule above.
  • When they pay for their first subscription, you earn a share of that payment in cash. It's the first subscription only — renewals never earn again, and each referred account can only ever earn its referrer once. On an annual purchase, the commission is worked out on one month's price, not the whole year.
  • You can't refer yourself, and a payment that was fully covered by a discount earns nothing — fair's fair.

From earned to paid out

Referral cash moves through stages you can watch on your Invite & earn page:

  1. In hold. Fresh earnings wait out a hold period before they become withdrawable — longer when your friend paid by card or bank, because those payments can be disputed for longer than M-Pesa ones. If the payment is reversed during the hold, the earning is voided.
  2. Ready to withdraw. Once past the hold, the money counts towards your withdrawable balance.
  3. Paid. When your balance reaches the minimum shown on your card, request a withdrawal — the money is sent to the M-Pesa number verified on your account, and nowhere else. That's a safety feature, not a formality: because the cash can only ever go to the phone you proved with an OTP, nobody can redirect your earnings by editing a payout field. A number verified only in the last few days can't receive a withdrawal yet — give it a week.

If a payout doesn't arrive — most often because the verified number isn't an M-Pesa line — the money stays withdrawable and you're told what happened.

If the programme has an end date

The card shows it. Friends who sign up and start their first subscription payment before the window closes still count, even if the payment confirms after — and cash you've already earned keeps maturing and pays out as normal.

Seasonal packages

From time to time the pricing page carries limited-window packages — a bundle of features at its own price, marked with a ribbon like "Holiday offer". They can only be bought while the window is open, but whatever you buy stays fully yours until your paid period ends.

That's true of every plan, in fact: what you pay for is locked in for the period you paid for. If a plan's price or features change later, the change only touches you at your next renewal — never mid-period.

Enterprise

The Enterprise tier isn't bought off the shelf — it starts a conversation. Click Let's talk on the pricing page (or your billing page), tell us your portfolio size and needs, and the Rentor team prepares a private plan for exactly your account. It appears on your billing page as Prepared for you, with a notification when it's ready — visible to you and no one else.
