For caretakers
Your caretaker account
As a caretaker, you are the eyes and hands on the ground — you record meter readings, report what breaks, and keep the landlord in the loop. Your Rentor account is built for exactly that, and nothing else.
Getting your account
Caretaker accounts are invite-only. The landlord or agency you work for sends you an invite link — by email, by SMS to your phone, or both:
- Open the link. The page tells you who invited you and what the invite is for, before you commit to anything.
- New to Rentor? Tap Create my account. If the invite was sent to an email address, the sign-up page is pre-filled with it (it is locked to the invite) — set your name and password.
- Already have a Rentor account? Tap Sign in to accept, sign in, and tap Accept. The caretaker role is added to the account you already have — you keep everything else on it. An invite sent to an email address can only be accepted by the account with that same email; if you are signed in as someone else, the page says so.
- That is it — you land on your caretaker dashboard, and the person who invited you is notified you have joined.
If you open the link on a phone that has the Rentor app, you can accept it right in the app. Invite links expire — the page shows the date — so if yours has lapsed, ask whoever sent it for a fresh one.
There is no way to sign yourself up as a caretaker without an invite — the role only makes sense attached to real buildings.
One account, several landlords
If you work for more than one landlord, you do not need more than one account. When another landlord invites you, their properties are simply added to the account you already have. Each landlord only ever sees and manages their own buildings on your account — never each other's. The same goes for other roles: if you are also a tenant somewhere, that lives on the same account and you switch between the two. See Your account & roles.
What you can do
- Record meter readings for water and electricity, with a photo of the meter, and send on tenant bills you've been handed, both on your Bills & meters page — see Recording meter readings and Adding a tenant's bill.
- Report maintenance issues you find on your buildings — see Reporting maintenance.
- Message — chat in each building's forum and message your landlord or agency privately — see Messages.
What you never touch — by design
Here is the promise Rentor makes when you take this role, and it is worth saying plainly: you never handle money. Your screens show no rents, no prices, no bill amounts, no repair costs, and no tenants' personal details. You key what the meter says; the landlord sees the calculations and does the billing. This is not a setting someone might forget to tick — it is how the caretaker role is built. It protects tenants' privacy, and it protects you: nobody can ever claim money passed through your hands on Rentor.
Assignments can change
Your access comes from your active assignments. If a landlord assigns you a new building, it appears in your account straight away. If a landlord ends your assignment, that building disappears from your account just as quickly — while any other landlords' buildings stay exactly as they were.
Your menu
Your dashboard is deliberately simple: My Buildings (your home page, with Record readings and Report an issue buttons on every building), Bills & meters (your readings and the bills you send on, on two tabs), Maintenance, Messages, then Invite & earn, Settings, Notifications, Help & support and Privacy. No finance pages, no reports — because none of that is your job here.
New to the role? A short checklist called Your first rounds sits on your home page until you have a building assigned and your first reading recorded.
On the phone app: most caretakers live on the phone. Your tabs are Buildings (your properties and open issues, with shortcuts to record readings or report an issue), Readings, Repairs (every issue on your buildings, open and closed), Messages, and More. See Rentor on your phone.
