Getting started
Finding your way around
Rentor has two sides: the public site where anyone can browse, and your dashboard once you're signed in. Here's the map.
The home page
The home page opens on four doors, not a slogan:
- Find a home — long-term rentals on the marketplace.
- Search for a stay — furnished places by the night.
- Find a service provider — fundis, cleaners, movers and more.
- Manage your property — signed out, it starts a landlord account; signed in as a landlord, agency, host or caretaker, it opens your dashboard; anyone else is offered the landlord role.
Under the doors is one search box. Type a town, an estate or a county and pick a suggestion, or type a property name and tap Search. Once the list opens you can also pick a budget, from ≤ 20K up to ≤ 120K (or leave it on Any budget). Below that come the latest homes, links to short stays, student housing and Discover, a Browse by county row, and the badges for the Android and iPhone apps.
The public header and footer
The header on every public page carries the five places you can browse: Homes, Stays, Services, Student housing and Discover. On a phone they sit behind the menu button at the top right. Once you're signed in, a Saved heart joins them.
Signed out, you'll see Sign in and Get started. Signed in, the header shows an account button instead. It opens a small menu:
- Dashboard — if you hold a role.
- My viewings and Become a landlord or partner — if you don't hold one yet.
- Profile — your account hub.
- Sign out.
The footer has four columns — Browse, For owners & providers, Company (About, Careers, News, What's new, Contact, FAQs, Tutorials, Documentation) and Legal (Terms of Use, Privacy Notice, Cookie Policy, Cookie preferences and the rest) — plus the app store badges and, beside the copyright line, the version Rentor is running.
The dashboard
Everyone lands in a dashboard after signing in. The top bar is always the same: the Rentor logo, a quick link back to Listings, then a row of controls — Search, Discover, Help (the ?), the light/dark switch, the notification bell, and your account menu (Sign out lives inside it).
The sidebar is organised into groups you can expand and collapse. At a glance:
- Members (no role yet) — Overview, then Refunds, Home Services, Notifications, Invite & earn, Settings, Privacy & data and Help & support.
- Tenants — My Home, then My Rental, Explore, Activity and Account groups.
- Landlords — Overview, then Portfolio, Money, Operations, Communication, Insights & Tax and Account.
- Agencies — Overview, then Management, Money, Communication, Insights and Account.
- Service providers — Overview, then Work, Money, Growth and Account.
- Hosts — Overview, Places, Stays, Sublets, Lease bills and Find a place, then Operations, Insights, Money, Communication and Account.
- Caretakers — a short, simple list: buildings, bills & meters, maintenance, messages.
At the bottom of every sidebar sits Browse Rentor — Listings and My trips — your way back to the public marketplace without leaving the dashboard.
A member's home
If you haven't taken on a role, your Overview is a home page built for looking: a Where do you want to live? search, the places you viewed recently, Your saved searches, a door into Discover, and a card — Choose your role to unlock more — for the day you want to list a property, host or offer services.
Search — go anywhere
The Search button in the top bar (or Ctrl+K, ⌘K on a Mac) opens a box that jumps you to any page you can open. Type a few letters — "wallet", "viewings", "add tenant" — and press Enter. It also finds help articles once you've typed three letters or more, and it keeps the pages you opened lately under Recent.
Use it when you know what you want but not where it lives. For "how does this work?", the ? button beside it is the better door — see Getting help.
The notification bell
The bell in the top bar updates live — no refresh needed. A badge shows how many notifications are unread. Click the bell to see the latest; opening the panel marks them read, or use Mark all read. Clicking a notification takes you straight to the thing it's about — a payment, a maintenance job, a viewing. See all → opens the full Notifications page, grouped by day, with All and Unread tabs.
Banners you might see
From time to time a coloured strip appears above your dashboard:
- Verify your email — enter the 6-digit code we emailed you to unlock viewings, messaging and posting. You can still browse and pay rent in the meantime. Use Resend if the code expired.
- Get verified — landlords and agencies must verify their identity or business before publishing listings. While your request is being checked you'll see "under review".
- Trial and subscription notices — service providers and hosts see a countdown when a free trial is ending, and a Subscribe now prompt if it lapses. Existing jobs and bookings are never affected. Plans are on the Pricing page.
Ask Rentor
The floating Ask Rentor button opens Rentor's built-in assistant. Ask it things in plain language — "How do I pay my rent?", "Find a 2 bedroom in Nairobi under 60k", "How do I get verified?" — and it answers with steps, links, or matching listings.
On the phone app
The same ideas apply, arranged as tabs along the bottom. Each role's bar carries its main job, More is always the last tab, and Discover is on every bar except the caretaker's:
- Member — Listings · Saved · Discover · More
- Tenant — Home · Explore · Discover · Payments · Maintenance · More
- Landlord or agency — Home · Properties · Tenants · Discover · More
- Service provider — Home · Work · Schedule · Discover · More
- Host — Home · Places · Stays · Discover · More
- Caretaker — Buildings · Readings · Repairs · Messages · More
Everything that isn't on the bar is under More, which has its own search box at the top. See Rentor on your phone.
