Short stays

Booking & paying for a stay

Booking a stay on Rentor takes a few taps: pick your dates, check the live price breakdown, reserve, and pay by M-Pesa. Here's the whole journey, including what happens when a host wants to approve requests first.

Check the listing first

A stay's page tells you everything before you commit:

  • "Hosted by …" — the host's name, how long they've hosted, and their rating (or "New host").
  • Check-in and check-out times — for example Check-in from 2:00 pm · Check-out by 11:00 am.
  • "About this place", "What this place offers" and "House rules".
  • "Cancellation policy" — read this before you book (see below).
  • "Where you'll live" — the town and area on a map you can drag and zoom. The exact address is shared once your booking is confirmed.
  • Reviews — written only by guests who completed a stay there, so every review is real.

One more thing to look for: if a host still owes a past guest money back, the page says so — "This host has an unsettled refund" — with how long it has been outstanding. Rentor records refunds but doesn't hold the money, so that note is there for you to weigh before you pay.

Get your price

  1. In the booking panel, pick "Check-in", "Check-out" and the number of "Guests".
  2. The price breakdown appears instantly:
  • the nightly rate × your number of nights,
  • any discount the host offers for longer stays — a weekly discount from 7 nights, a monthly discount from 28 — shown as its own line,
  • a cleaning fee if the host charges one,
  • and the Total.

There is no Rentor booking fee on top. Stays are priced and paid in Kenya shillings.

If your dates are taken you'll see "These dates aren't available." — try different ones.

Instant Book vs Request to book

  • ⚡ Instant Book listings show a "Reserve" button — you pay right away to confirm instantly. Your dates are held for one hour while you pay.
  • Other listings show "Request to book" — the host has 24 hours to accept. You only pay once they do — you then have 24 hours to pay before the dates are released — and you can follow the request in My trips. If the host doesn't respond in time, the request simply expires and you're never charged.

You'll need to sign in to book — any Rentor account works.

ID-verified guests

Some hosts accept ID-verified guests only. If so, you'll be asked once for your National ID or passport number — enter it, tap "Verify ID & continue", and your booking carries on.

Paying

Confirm the total for your stay — payment goes straight to the host, to their own M-Pesa or bank account. You're offered only the ways to pay that this host has set up:

  • "Pay with M-Pesa" — the usual route. Type the M-Pesa phone number to use (format 2547XXXXXXXX), or leave it blank to use the number on your account. A prompt appears on your phone — enter your PIN. The page updates automatically once the payment lands.
  • "Pay by card" or "Pay by bank transfer" — where the host accepts them. The button shows the amount you'll actually be charged — KES … incl. fee — because the processing fee for a card or bank payment is added to your total rather than taken from the host.
  • "or arrange to pay the host on arrival" — prefer cash? Your booking is confirmed straight away and you settle with the host in person.

Once you're confirmed

You'll see "Booking confirmed!" 🎉 The host's check-in instructions — and the exact address — are now waiting for you on your trips page.

Cancellation policies

Every stay shows its policy before you book, and refunds follow the policy that was showing when you booked:

  • Flexible — full refund up to 24 hours before check-in. Nothing after that.
  • Moderate — full refund up to 5 days before check-in. Inside the last 5 days, half. Nothing once check-in day has come.
  • Strict — 50% refund if cancelled 7 or more days before. Nothing after that.

A refund is paid by the host, directly to you — Rentor doesn't hold the money, so it can't send it for you. What Rentor does is keep the record: the amount due appears on your trip, and under Refunds in your dashboard you confirm when it arrives, or say that it hasn't. See Refunds — money owed back to you.

To cancel, pay later, or find your check-in details, head to My trips.
