How everything works.

Every feature explained properly — for tenants, landlords, agencies, hosts and service providers.

For service providers

Your catalogue, pricing & coverage

Clients hire and order faster when they can see exactly what you offer, what it looks like and what it costs. Your catalogue does that work for you, and the places you cover make sure the right people find you.

Setting up for the first time

If you are new, use Set up my listing in the menu instead of filling in the whole profile page. It asks four short questions — what you offer, where you cover, one thing you charge for, and how people reach you — and saves each answer as you give it, so you can stop and come back. At the end it sends you to verify your identity, which is the one thing left before you can go live (see Your provider profile & verification).

If you sell and deliver rather than repair

Rentor is not only for trades. If you deliver cooking gas, drinking water, groceries, mboga, milk, charcoal, bread, meat or anything else to people's doors, pick your category under Deliveries & shopping and the words change to suit you: your catalogue reads as your price list, Rentor asks where you deliver rather than where you work, and customers order from you instead of booking you.

Price an item the way you actually sell it — Per unit with a unit like cylinder, bottle, kg or crate is usually the right shape. How orders reach you and get delivered is in Orders & deliveries.

My catalogue

Open My catalogue under Work. On the phone app it is on the Work tab, and the Add a service or product button at the top of that tab opens a blank item straight away.

Every line in your catalogue is an item: one thing you do or one thing you sell, with its own photos, price and public page. Tap + Add item. Each item has:

  1. Photos — up to 8, JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB each. The first photo is the cover; tap Make cover on another to move it to the front.
  2. Title — clear and specific, e.g. Sofa set deep clean or 13 kg gas refill.
  3. Category — one per item. There are over a hundred, grouped into sections (repairs, cleaning, home help, water/power/security, building, deliveries, transport, outdoors, beauty, food, professionals, media) — type into the search box to jump straight to yours instead of scrolling. If your trade genuinely is not there, tap Can't find your trade? Suggest a category; our team reviews it and you can use it once it is approved.
  4. This is a — Service (clients book it and you come and do it) or Product (clients order it and you deliver it). Rentor picks one from the category, and you can change it: a hardware shop's tap installation is a service even under a goods category.
  5. Price type — how you charge:
  • Fixed price — one price for the whole job or item.
  • From (starting) — your lowest price; you confirm the final figure when the request comes in.
  • Per hour.
  • Per unit — a price per something, with a Unit like per room, per 20 litres or per bag.
  • On quote — no price upfront; you name it after hearing the details.
  1. Price (KES) — required unless the item is on quote.
  2. Description (optional) — what is included, how long it takes, brand and size.
  3. Tags — up to 10 short words people search by: sizes, brands, areas, same-day. Rentor suggests tags for your category; tap one to add it, or type your own and press Enter.
  4. Taking bookings (services) or In stock (products) — untick it when you cannot take more. The item stays on your page marked Not taking bookings or Out of stock, drops out of search, and its Book or Order button is switched off until you tick it again.
  5. Show on my public listing — untick to keep an item saved but hidden from everyone. Hidden items carry a Paused tag in your list.

Products have three more fields:

  • Delivery fee (KES) — leave blank if it depends on the distance; enter 0 for free delivery.
  • Minimum order — the fewest units you will deliver.
  • 18+ only — for alcohol. The item carries an 18+ badge and the buyer confirms their age before ordering. This tick appears only in the deliveries and food categories.

Tap Add item. Your catalogue holds up to 100 items.

On the phone app the same fields come as three short steps: Photos, Details, Extras.

Managing your items

Each item in the list has:

  • Edit — change anything.
  • Duplicate — copies the item so you can change one detail. Add 13 kg refill, duplicate it, and turn the copy into 6 kg refill.
  • Share — copies the link to the item's own public page. Paste it into WhatsApp, a status or a poster. The page only shows once the item is live with a photo.
  • Pause / Resume — the same as the Show on my public listing tick.
  • Delete — removes it. Past bookings and orders keep their record.
  • The ↑ ↓ arrows set the order clients see on your page.
  • The stock tick on each row flips In stock or Taking bookings without opening the item.

Photos decide where an item shows

An item with a photo appears in search, on Discover and on your public page. An item without one shows on your own page only. Your catalogue page warns you when items are missing photos, so fix those first.

What you cannot list

Some things cannot be sold on Rentor: prescription-only medicines, tobacco, vapes and shisha, weapons and ammunition, counterfeit or replica goods, wildlife products, and illicit drugs or brews. Alcohol is allowed only when the item is marked 18+ only.

Our team reviews catalogues and hides items that break these rules. A hidden item stays in your list with a red Hidden by Rentor note that says why. Nobody else can see it until the problem is fixed and our team restores it.

Adding a video to an item

Open a saved item and tap Add a video. Rentor creates a Showcase post that features the item and takes you to attach the clip. The video then plays on the item's page and in the Discover feed — see Showcase your work with video.

Where you work

Your coverage is on Profile & areas, under Where you work — and it goes deeper than counties. Tap + Add a place and pick a whole county to cover all of it, or name the specific towns and estates you actually reach; someone searching that estate will find you. Add as many as you like.

If you travel out from one base and cannot name estates, tick I'd rather set a distance, drop a pin where you are based and enter how far you travel in kilometres.

If you set neither, nobody finds you by place, and the page tells you so.

Where you appear

Your Who do you serve? choice on Profile & areas decides who can find you.

Landlords & agents lists you in the landlords & agents directory only. Property owners, agencies and hosts browse it to compare fundis and companies, see pricing and ratings, book you and assign maintenance jobs.

Tenants or Both also makes you public:

  • The home-services marketplace and the public Find a service provider page — tenants, members and visitors search by trade, by place and by what they need. Searching mtungi finds a gas refill and fundi wa maji finds a plumber, because Rentor understands the everyday Kenyan words as well as the formal ones. Your items show as cards with their photo and price above the list of providers.
  • Your own public page and item pages — each has a link you can share, and visitors can read them without an account.
  • Discover — items with photos and your Showcase posts appear in the Services lane of the video feed.

Choose Both and you appear everywhere with the same profile and catalogue. If you sell products, Both is the right choice: someone signed in as a landlord, agency or host can only book or order from providers who serve landlords, and tenants, members and visitors only from providers who serve tenants.

Clients see your business name, headline, rating, jobs completed, categories, coverage, catalogue and reviews. If you have set your weekly working hours, they also see a Next available time — a strong nudge to book you (see Your schedule & time off).

Tips that win work

  • Put your most in-demand item first and give it a sharp title.
  • Use Fixed price or Per unit where you can — clients trust clear numbers.
  • Keep On quote for genuinely variable work, and answer quickly.
  • Photograph every item. No photo means no search and no Discover.
  • Tag sizes, brands and the estates you serve — that is what people type.

Want to be seen first? A profile boost puts you at the top of both directories with a ★ Featured badge — see Your subscription, trial & boosts.
