For tenants
Your tenant dashboard
Sign in as a tenant and Rentor greets you with "Karibu home". This page — My Home — is the hub for everything about your rental. Here's a quick tour.
Your home card
The big card at the top is your home:
- A photo of the property, its name and your unit — for example Green Court · Unit A4 — with a status badge: "Active" for a normal running tenancy, or "Notice given" if the tenancy is ending.
- The unit type and address.
- Monthly rent — what you pay each month.
- Moved in — your start date.
- Balance due — what you currently owe, in red. If you owe nothing, it shows "Cleared" with a tick, in green.
Quick actions
Right on the card are the three things tenants do most:
- "Pay rent" — jumps to Rent & Payments. See Paying rent.
- "Report an issue" — opens Maintenance to log something broken. See Reporting maintenance.
- "Property forum" — the open discussion channel for everyone at your property. See Messages, forums & notices.
The three cards below
- Next due date — when your next rent falls due, straight from your ledger. The due day is set in your tenancy, so check this card rather than assuming a date.
- Trust score — your score out of 5, which grows with on-time payments. See Your trust score.
- Tenancy status — Active or Notice given, and since when.
Renting more than one home?
If you rent two or more places through Rentor, a "My homes" row of buttons appears above the card. Tap a home to switch the whole hub to it. The Payments page has the same switcher — and the Maintenance form asks "Which home?" — so you always know which home you're paying for or reporting about. On the Payments page a home you've left stays in the row, marked "Past home", so its old ledger and receipts are still one tap away.
Already living somewhere your landlord hasn't linked to your account? Use Add a home — see Adding a home you already rent.
If you share a room
In a hostel or shared room, a "Your room" card appears under the stat cards, showing the beds in your room. Roommates' names only appear if they chose to share them, and the same goes for yours: tick "Show my name to my roommates" if you want to be shown.
Finding your way around
The side menu groups everything a tenant needs:
- My Home — this page.
- My Rental — Rent & Payments, Refunds, Maintenance, Documents, Viewings, Add a home.
- Explore — Saved, Home Services.
- Activity — Messages, Ratings, Reports.
- Account — Invite & earn, Notifications, Help & support, Privacy, Settings.
- Browse Rentor — Listings and My trips, your way back to the public marketplace and any short stays you've booked.
Hold another role on the same account — landlord, say, or service provider? Open the account menu and pick it under Switch role; see Your account & roles.
Hiring home services
Under Home Services you can hire trusted cleaners, nannies, repair techs, internet providers and more — separate from maintenance your landlord handles. On the Browse tab, search or filter by service, place or "Verified only", and check each provider's star rating. Tap "View & book" to pick a service and a time, then "Request booking"; providers who sell products can be ordered from the same way. Follow everything on the "Bookings & orders" tab: Track a job, Accept quote, pay by M-Pesa prompt (or choose Pay cash to mark it paid directly to the provider), and Rate provider when the job's done. See Finding a service provider for the whole journey.
Before you have a tenancy
If no landlord has assigned you a unit yet, My Home shows "You don't have an active tenancy yet" with an "Explore homes" button. Use it to search the marketplace, book viewings, and get yourself a home — the hub appears the moment a landlord takes you on. See Starting a tenancy.
On the phone app: the bottom bar is Home · Explore · Discover · Payments · Maintenance · More. Home is this same hub — your home card with Pay rent, shortcuts to Report issue, My ledger, Inspection and Documents, your landlord's notices, and Give notice to vacate when the time comes. More holds Documents, Messages, Ratings, Refunds, Viewings and the rest. Renting more than one place? Chips at the top of Home switch between your homes.
