Earning as a sales rep
Sales reps bring landlords, agencies, service providers and hosts onto Rentor and earn a commission when each recruit makes their first subscription payment. Reps are invited by the Rentor team — there is no public signup. (To be clear on scope: this commission comes out of Rentor's own subscription revenue. Rentor still never takes a cut of anyone's rent.)
You sign in with the Rentor email address the team issues you, using your email and password — Google and Apple sign-in are not available on a Rentor address. If you introduce clients to Rentor from outside the team, on your own email, you are a sales partner instead: read Sales partners & retainer agreements.
Finding your way around
- Web — your menu has Overview, then Leads and My Clients under Selling, Earnings under Money, and the team pages — Notices, The wall, Materials and Message supervisor — under Team.
- App — your tabs are Overview, Leads, My Day, Clients, Earnings and More. The team pages are under More.
My Day is the field log and exists only in the app — see My Day — your field log.
Your code and share link
Every rep has a personal code like RS-K3TQM and a share link (/register?ref=RS-K3TQM), both at the top of your Overview. Tap Copy share link on the web, or Share my link in the app to send it straight into WhatsApp or SMS. Anyone who signs up through the link — or types the code during registration — is attributed to you. Attribution happens once, at signup: a person who already has a Rentor account or has already paid cannot be claimed afterwards.
Logging leads
Met someone in person who won't click a link? Log them before they sign up — that is what links their subscription back to you. An introduction nobody logged cannot be credited afterwards.
- Open Leads and tap Log a lead (+ Add a lead in the app).
- Enter their Full name and a Phone or Email — at least one, because that is how Rentor recognises them when they register.
- Choose what They'd join as — landlord, agency, service provider, host, or Not sure yet — and add a Note: where you met, what they manage, what they need.
- Optionally add where the prospect is, then tap Save lead.
Each open lead shows Claim protected until a date. How long a claim holds is part of your terms — your Overview states the number of days (90 as standard):
- If they register with the email you logged, they're attached to you automatically.
- If they verify the phone you logged, the match goes to the Rentor team to confirm — a phone number alone is never attached automatically. Your lead shows match under review while that happens.
- If they never register inside the window, the lead expires.
Keep the pipeline honest as you go: Mark contacted once you have followed up, and Mark lost (with a reason) when a prospect is going nowhere. Signed up and Converted are never yours to set — Rentor sets them when the person actually registers and actually pays.
A code always beats a lead: if your prospect signs up with another rep's link, the link wins. Contested matches are decided by the Rentor team.
When you get paid
- Accrued — your recruit made their first subscription payment. Your commission (a percentage of what they actually paid after any discounts, or a fixed amount, per your terms) is locked in.
- Payable — after the hold period shown on your Overview (14 days as standard), the commission clears and counts toward your withdrawable balance. If the recruit's payment is reversed inside the hold, the commission is voided.
- Paid — the money lands on your M-Pesa. Tap Request withdrawal (in the app, Request payout) once your payable balance reaches the minimum of KES 500, or wait for a payout run — either way the Rentor team releases it. Requesting does not move money by itself.
Your Earnings page shows every commission with its status and gives you downloadable statements (Download PDF and CSV); in the app, Commission statement on your Overview opens the same thing.
My Clients lists everyone attributed to you, and Converted on your Overview counts the ones who have made their first payment.
If the programme is paused
Rentor can pause the sales programme centrally. When it is paused, a banner on your Overview says so: new signups will not attach to you and no new commission accrues until it is switched back on. Money you are already owed is unaffected — it still matures and pays out.
Retainer agreements
Separately from the one-time commission, Rentor signs a retainer agreement with some reps and partners. It is an individual, written arrangement — not part of the standard terms — and it pays a percentage of every subscription payment your clients make after their first, for as long as the agreement runs.
If you hold one, a card called Your retainer agreement appears on your Overview with the percentage, the dates, whether it is in force today, and what it has earned so far. Retainer earnings ride the same rails as everything else: accrued, then payable, then paid. If you see no such card, you do not have one, and the one-time commission is all that applies. Details are in Sales partners & retainer agreements.
Terms
Your commission terms are shown on your Overview. The standard terms apply unless the Rentor team has agreed something different with you. If your terms ever change, the change applies from that point onward — commission you have already earned is never rewritten.
