How to do it
- In the Rentor app — open More → Privacy & data, then Delete my account.
- On the website — sign in and go to Privacy & data, then Delete my account.
You will be asked for your password (or, if you sign in with Google, to type your email address) and your two-factor code if you use one. Deletion happens the moment you confirm — there is nothing to wait for and nobody has to approve it.
What is erased
- Your name, email address, phone number, National ID and KRA PIN
- Your profile photo, identity documents and any files you uploaded — the encryption key for each file is shredded, so no copy of it can be read again, including copies inside our backups
- Your ability to sign in, every active session, and notifications to your devices
- Your listings, videos, reviews and messages, which stop being shown to anyone
What is kept, and why
- Payments, receipts, rent statements and KRA filings. The Tax Procedures Act obliges Rentor and your landlord to keep these; after deletion they no longer identify you.
- Records of a tenancy you were party to, held by the landlord or agency that entered into it with you — their copy of a contract you both signed is their record too.
Retained records are held for seven years from the end of the tax year they belong to, which is the period Kenyan tax law requires, and are then destroyed. Usage analytics are unlinked from you immediately and purged on the normal schedule set out in our Cookie Policy.
If we can't delete it yet
Deletion is refused only while other people are relying on the account — a tenancy still running, a guest booked into your place, a payment still being confirmed, or a balance still owed. The app names exactly what is outstanding and what clears it. If none of it can be resolved, the same screen sends the case to our team, who will close the account for you.
Before you go
You can download a copy of your data first — everything we hold about you, as a portable JSON file, served instantly. Once the account is deleted we cannot produce it, because we will no longer know which records were yours.
Questions about any of this go to privacy@rentor.ke, or through our contact page.
