Finding a home
Finding a service provider
A leaking tap, a move across town, a deep clean before the landlord's inspection — Rentor's Services directory is where you find the person for it. Every provider listed has had their identity and documents checked by Rentor before they could publish, and you don't need an account to look.
Browse the directory
Open Services in the header, or the Find a service provider door on the home page. Three controls narrow the list:
- Trade — tap a chip: plumbing, cleaning, moving and the rest. All clears it.
- Place — pick a county, town or estate. It starts on Anywhere in Kenya.
- Search — type a business name or a trade.
The count above the results tells you how many verified providers match. There is no sort to fiddle with — the order is Rentor's: promoted providers first, then the best-rated and most experienced. Tap Show more for the next page.
Each trade also has a page of its own — /services/plumbing, for instance — and a page for each place it is offered in, with Popular places for that trade and a few common questions answered. They are the same directory, already filtered; Browse by service at the foot of the page lists them all.
Reading a provider card
- The business name, a headline, and up to three trades.
- The areas they cover.
- A ★ rating — or New if nobody has rated them yet — and how many jobs they've done on Rentor.
- From KES … where they publish a starting price.
- Verified on every card; Featured where the provider has paid to appear higher.
- A Book button.
Products and services, item by item
Above the providers you'll often see Products & services — the individual things providers sell or do, each with a photo, a price and the provider's name. Use All | Services | Products to switch between them. A price reads From KES …, KES … / hour, KES … / unit, or On quote when the provider prices each job. An item that can't be had right now says Out of stock or Not taking bookings.
Tap a card for the item's own page — photos and videos, delivery terms for a product, reviews from people who bought it, who provides it, and an Order or Book button. Share copies a link to send to somebody else, and Report flags an item that shouldn't be there.
Nobody covers your area yet?
If a place has no providers, the page says so honestly — "Providers are joining in …" — and offers a short form: your name, email and what you need. Tap Send request and we'll match you when a verified provider covers your area.
A provider's page
Tap a provider to see everything about them:
- Their rating and reviews, jobs done, years of experience, and how long they've been on Rentor.
- Their Catalogue — services and products with prices. If it is empty you'll see "Priced on request": book, and they'll quote for the job.
- Recent work — photos and videos of jobs they've done.
- About them, and Where they work.
- Reviews — each marked Verified booking or Verified order, because only a customer who completed one can write it. Some include photos.
Two buttons do the work: Book, and Show contact. Showing the contact reveals Call and WhatsApp buttons. Provider numbers are never printed on the public page, so you need to be signed in to see one — and a provider who hasn't shared a number can still be booked through Rentor.
Signed out? Carry on where you were
Tap Book, Order or Show contact without an account and Rentor sends you to sign in (or sign up) — then brings you straight back and finishes what you asked for: the booking form opens, or the number appears. You don't have to find the provider again.
Booking a service
The booking form asks for:
- Service — pick one of the provider's priced services, or Something else — request a custom quote.
- When — a date, then one of the provider's free time slots. If they haven't set fixed hours, pick any time.
- County and Where — estate, building and house number.
- Notes — anything the provider should know.
Tap Request booking. The provider either accepts or sends you a quote, and nothing is charged until you agree. You need a verified email to book or order. If the provider has not answered within 24 hours, Rentor cancels the request and tells you, so you can try somebody else.
Following a booking
Your bookings live under Home Services → Bookings & orders in your dashboard. Each one shows where it stands:
- Requested — with the provider.
- Accepted — they can do it at the listed price. Tap Confirm to lock it in.
- Quote received — they've named a price for your job. Tap Accept quote if you're happy.
- Confirmed — it's on. Then In progress, then Completed.
- Declined or Cancelled — with the reason, where one was given.
Until the job is finished you can tap Change time to propose a different slot, or Cancel. Track opens the full timeline, with a message thread to the provider.
Once a price is agreed a Pay KES … button appears — most people use it when the job is done. Approve an M-Pesa prompt, or choose Pay cash and tap Mark as paid if you settled in person. Payment goes to the provider, not to Rentor.
Ordering a product
Products work like a delivery order. Tap Order and choose:
- Quantity — some items have a minimum order.
- Deliver to — My home (the home you rent on Rentor), a Saved address, or a New address. For a new one, give the estate, building and house number, the county, and — optionally — paste a Google Maps link so the rider gets the pin. Name it (Home, Office) and it is saved for next time — you can keep up to five. In the phone app, tap Use my location instead of pasting a link, and Manage addresses to tidy the saved ones.
- Delivery phone — the number the rider should call.
- When — As soon as possible, or Schedule a date and time.
- Pay — Pay on delivery (cash or M-Pesa straight to the seller when it arrives), or Pay now with M-Pesa where the seller accepts it. With pay-now, the prompt comes once the seller has confirmed the final amount.
The delivery fee is shown before you order — free, a fixed amount, or set by the seller when it depends on distance. Items marked 18+ need you to confirm your age, and the seller checks ID at the door.
Tap Place order, then Track your order. The tracker shows each step — Placed → Confirmed → On the way → Delivered — and your delivery code. Give the code to the rider when the order arrives; only you have it, and it is what proves the goods reached the right person. Once a rider is assigned you see their name, and a Live location map while the seller shares it. From the same screen you can Message the seller or Order again.
If something goes wrong — not delivered, wrong or damaged, very late — tap Problem with this order. It is available while the order is on the way and for 48 hours after delivery: pick what happened, add up to three photos and tap Report the problem. The seller is told at once, and Rentor steps in if the two of you cannot settle it. If you paid through Rentor and money is due back, it appears on your Refunds page — see Refunds — money owed back to you.
If the seller changes the price after you order (an item out of stock, a different size), the order shows Price to confirm — nothing moves until you tap Accept new price.
You can Cancel an order freely until the seller sends it out. Once a rider is on the way, the button becomes Ask the seller to cancel, which opens the message thread.
Rating the work
Once a booking is Completed or an order Delivered, tap Rate provider (or Rate this order). Give an overall star rating, optionally rate the details — quality, punctuality, communication and value for a service; on time, as described, communication and value for a product — add a comment, and up to three photos. Reviews and photos are public, and they are what the next customer reads. You have 14 days to leave one, and Rentor reminds you once.
Save the search
Narrowed the directory to electricians in Ruaka? Tap ☆ Save this search, then Alerts, and Rentor will tell you when a new provider or product matches. The button appears once the list is filtered. See Saved searches & favourites.
Prefer to watch?
The Services lane in Discover is a feed of providers' own videos — a tiler's finished bathroom, a mover's loaded lorry. Each video leads to the provider's page, or straight to Book or Order for the item it shows.
Inside your dashboard
Signed in as a tenant or member, Home Services in your sidebar has a Browse tab — search by service or business, filter by place, and tick Verified only — and a Bookings & orders tab where everything you've booked or ordered is followed to done.
Landlords, agencies and hosts use Service Providers in their sidebar instead, with a My bookings tab. Signed in as one of those, you can book or order only from providers who also serve landlords.
On the phone app: signed out, Services is a segment on the Explore screen. Signed in, open More → Services to browse, or More → Home Services (tenants and members) to browse and see your Bookings & orders. Booking, ordering, tracking and rating all work the same way.
