Finding a home
The Discover video feed
Discover is Rentor's video feed — a full-screen, scrollable stream of short videos posted by landlords, hosts and service providers. It's the fastest way to get a real feel for a home, a stay or a professional's work before you tap through to the listing.
Opening Discover
- On the website: click Discover in the header, or go straight to
/feed. Inside your dashboard, the play button in the top bar opens it too. - In the app: Discover is a tab on every role's bottom bar except the caretaker's. Signed out, it is the last segment on the Explore screen.
- From a search: on the marketplace or Stays search you'll see a Video mode button — it jumps into Discover with your current filters carried over, so the feed keeps showing only what matches your search. The list button at the top of the feed takes you back to the same results as a list.
You don't need an account to watch — every lane is open to everyone. Signing in unlocks liking, saving, booking and a feed tuned to you.
Three lanes
Pills at the top switch between three lanes:
- Homes — videos of vacant rental units on the marketplace.
- Stays — short-stay places you can book by the night.
- Services — showcase clips from verified service providers (fundis, cleaners, movers and more), and the services and products in their catalogues.
Tap the filter button to narrow your search without leaving the videos: county for every lane, plus unit type for homes, guests for stays, and — in Services — the service category and whether you want Services or Products.
Pausing, skipping and scrubbing
The player is yours to control:
- Tap once to pause, and again to play.
- Skip 10 seconds back or forward with the buttons either side of play/pause.
- Drag the bar along the bottom edge to move anywhere in the video.
- Press and hold to play at 2x — let go and it drops back to normal speed. Handy for a long walkthrough.
- The speaker button mutes and unmutes.
Swipe up or down (or scroll) to move between videos. In the app, swipe left or right to change lane — dragging the bar itself never does — and double-tap a video to like it. There is no double-tap-to-skip: two taps always means a like.
On a computer the keyboard works too: Space or K to pause, ← and → to skip 10 seconds, ↑ and ↓ for the previous or next video, and M to mute.
Liking, saving and sharing
On each video you can:
- ♥ Like — a quick signal that you want more like this.
- Save — bookmarks the listing so you can come back to it. On the website your bookmarks are under ♥ Saved in the header; in the app, tap the bookmark at the top of Discover (members also have a Saved tab). See Saved searches & favourites.
- Share — sends or copies a link you can drop into WhatsApp or anywhere else.
- Open it — the button at the bottom takes you through: View listing for a home, View stay for a stay, and in Services View provider, Book for a service or Order for a product. If you're signed out, booking and ordering ask you to sign in and then carry on from where you were.
How the feed is ordered
Discover learns from what you do deliberately — the videos you like, save and open — and shows you more of that. If you've chosen to share usage analytics in your privacy settings, it can also learn from what you simply watch longer; if you haven't, that signal is never used. Skipping through a video with the bar is never counted as watching it. You're always in control — see Privacy & your data.
A note on what you're seeing
Every video is attached to a real listing or a verified provider on Rentor — there are no ads from outside the platform. If a video looks misleading or inappropriate, tap the flag — Report this post — on the video itself and our team will review it.
