Parklands development approvals issued from 15 October declared void, Kenyans.co.ke reports
New development approvals in Nairobi's Parklands area issued from 15 October 2026 have been declared null and void, Kenyans.co.ke reports. According to court documents seen by the outlet, the Nairobi City County Government did not meet court-ordered deadlines to set up a planning forum and gazette development plans for the area.
The Parklands Residents Association has published a notice on the matter. It says the affected approvals cover building, subdivision, change of use, lease extension and renewal, and occupation certificates. The association says the deadline for setting up the forum passed on 14 April, and the period for completing the plans ended on 14 October, without either requirement being met.
The report is based on the association's notice and the court documents seen by Kenyans.co.ke. We could not find the judgment itself on the Kenya Law website, so the full wording of the order is not yet clear.
Why it matters: Landlords and developers in Parklands who receive or apply for approvals from 15 October may find those approvals are not valid until the county complies. That includes occupation certificates, which matter for anyone planning to let out units in a newly finished building. Agencies marketing new Parklands projects should also take note, since timelines for handing over units could be affected.
What you can do:
- If you have a Parklands approval dated on or after 15 October, speak to an advocate about where it stands.
- If you are waiting on an occupation certificate, ask your advocate or planning consultant how this order could affect your plans to let units.
- Keep copies of every approval, application and county correspondence for your property.
This is general information, not legal advice. We will follow up if the county responds or the judgment becomes available.
