Murang'a South to get a KES 300 million land registry at Makenji
Murang'a South is set to get its own land registry, at a cost of KES 300 million, The Star reports. According to the State Department for Lands, the registry will be built at Makenji in Gatanga Constituency, on land ceded by Del Monte, and is meant to make services easier for residents to reach.
Lands Cabinet Secretary Wahome said all land registry records for the area would be transferred from Murang'a town to the new facility. Until the permanent building is ready, the registry will run from two temporary container offices. These were donated through the Food and Agriculture Organisation, with support from the European Union, and were handed over on 14 October 2026.
Why it matters: Property owners in Murang'a South, including landlords, should be able to search titles and complete transfers closer to home once the registry is running. That can save travel time and costs. But records are moving from Murang'a town during the switch, and that kind of move can slow things down for a while.
What you can do:
- If you plan to buy, sell or transfer property in Murang'a South soon, allow extra time for searches and registration.
- Confirm where your records are held before travelling to a registry office.
- Keep copies of your title and any transfer documents in a safe place.
- For questions about a specific transaction, check with an advocate.
The Star's report does not give a date for when the permanent building will be complete. We will share updates as they come.
